Garbage Patch in the Pacific

Did you know there is a Garbage Patch in the Pacific Ocean? The patch consists of pollution that is non-biodegradable and spans from the West Coast of the US to Japan. This patch also only consists of the items that float, meanwhile 70% of debris actually sinks to the bottom of the ocean.

How did it get there? Well, 80% of the plastic in the ocean comes from land-based sources (landfills, dumps, etc.).

What is being done about it? Nothing. No country will accept responsibility and provide the funding to cleanup the patch.

How can you help? Buy products that are biodegradable and be sure you are properly disposing of your debris/unwanted items.
